TUMMY TUCK

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)

Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) is one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery. Consequently, particularly of childbirth, and with the ageing of the skin, women (and men too!) develop a little apron that hangs over the pants or underwear. One appears bloated in the lower abdominal region, giving the uncomplimentary appearance of early pregnancy.

The problem is aggravated in that pregnancy splits the abdominal muscles apart, meaning that the waist is lost.

In this procedure, all the excess skin, particularly evident below the belly button is excised. Also, the abdominal muscles are tightened. Inevitably this leads to quite a long scar. However, the good news is that the scar can be often be hidden within the panties or bikini.

ADVANTAGES OF THE PROCEDURE

  1. Improved abdominal contour

  2. Improved waistline

  3. Improved confidence

  4. No longer look pregnant

  5. Improved self-confidence

  6. Stretch marks, if present below belly button disappears

  7. Improved backache and posture

DISADVANTAGES OF THE PROCEDURE

  1. Scar from hip to hip and around the umbilicus (belly button)

  2. Some loss of sensation of the skin below the belly button

COMPLICATIONS

As with any other operation, complications can occur. It is important to emphasize that this is not a procedure for those who are heavy smokers.

Also, patients who are grossly overweight, achieve a suboptimal result. It would be best if you discussed this with your plastic surgeon.

The tummy tuck has been refined recently, leading to improvement in results.

The right procedure or treatment plan for you will depend on your unique needs and goals. The best way to received individualised recommendations is to book a consultation and speak with Professor Hudson in person.
